Learn, it’s what we do from the moment that we’re conceived. We learn the the art of breathing before air ever hits our lungs. The cycle continues as we grow from newborns into adults. Rolling, crawling, walking, talking: the first years of life are highly developmental. And, the same can be said for any new business or start-up.
First we must practice breathing. Deep breaths, as we research and find meaning in our business model. Who are we? What is our purpose? How do we get to tomorrow? What will the success look like? Ask yourself what does success mean to me? What does success mean to my business?
Next, we have to roll. Roll with the punches, establish ourselves. Everything gets turned upside down. You must reach outside of your comfort zone and realize that there *are* so many more perspectives to consider.
Crawling and reaching out to new and uncharted territories. Exploring and learning about things that we’ve never grasped before. There are places that you’re excited about, that you’ll want to explore. But there will be hurdles along the way and people might try and redirect you. Some redirection can be a positive, other times, it is a distraction.
In school we learn that mistakes are bad, and we are punished for making them. Yet, if you look at the way humans are designed to learn, we learn by making mistakes. We learn to walk by falling down. If we never fell down, we would never walk. – Robert T. Kiyosaki
Walking, now we move, faster, but with more risk. Stumbling along the way, all while learning from our mistakes.
But, where would the child be without nurture, after a year? After one year are you as a business going to stop growing, learning? No! Not at all.
You have to look at business in the same way. Your business is your child, and your child will always be your child. Even when they are self sufficient they still need you. Your child and your business. If you can’t relate to that, or perhaps you have a pet (it’s the same theory). I don’t mean to oversimplify kids, pets, and business, but sometimes, it’s the simple little details that can make or break a relationship, a business, and life in general.

Along the way we will all make mistakes. It is just a fact of human nature. In making mistakes we always want to learn from them. So the following acronym has a double meaning.
- Listen to the client (kiddo, pet, yourself), and find out what the root of the problem is.
- Empathize with the problem, so that you can put yourself in their shoes.
- Admit that a mistake was made.
- Repair the problem.
- Negotiate a happy outcome.
LEARN from yourself,LEARN from your customer,LEARN from your children or pets, andLEARN from your mistakes.
Basically the idea is that we can NEVER stop learning. When you stop learning, your business stops growing. If we stop learning it is no better than quitting. This means that we need to make mistakes, we cannot fear our mistakes, rather we should embrace them as a source of learning.
